Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the health and safety compliance checker really free?

Yes. The checker is completely free and needs no sign-up or email address. You answer nine plain-English questions about your business and get an instant report of where your legal gaps are and how to close them. Your answers stay in your browser.

What does the health and safety checker cover?

It covers the core legal duties UK businesses share: risk assessments, a written health and safety policy, COSHH, work at height, manual handling, work equipment (PUWER), DSE, training records, incident recording and RIDDOR, fire safety, and contractor management. The questions you answer determine which duties apply to you.

Do small businesses really need all of this?

The duties scale with your business. Every employer has duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, including risk assessments. Once you employ five or more people you must also have a written health and safety policy and record the significant findings of your risk assessments. The checker only flags the duties that apply to your answers.

Is this a substitute for a professional assessment?

No. The free checker gives general guidance based on your answers and common UK duties. It is a starting point that shows you where to focus. It does not replace a full assessment of your specific workplace, and you should always refer to current HSE guidance for your industry.

What happens after I get my results?

You get a personalised list of your gaps with the regulation behind each one and what to do about it. You can act on them yourself, or start a free 14-day trial of Featherstone Safety Hub, which turns the report into a live system for building assessments, logging training and incidents, running fire checks and keeping everything audit-ready.
