ISO 45001 Implementation

ISO 45001 implementation for UK businesses

I build your complete ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management system in Featherstone Safety Hub — policy, registers, operational controls, internal audits, management review and the full certification document pack — then guide you through Stage 1 and Stage 2 with a UKAS-accredited certification body. You end up certification-ready with a system your team actually uses, not a folder that gathers dust.

ISO 45001 implementation from £2,750 (typical range £2,750–£7,500, scoped to your size). I don't issue the certificate — I build and evidence the system and guide you through certification. Certification body audit fees are separate.

What ISO 45001 implementation involves

ISO 45001:2018 follows the Annex SL high-level structure used by all modern ISO management standards. Implementation means building each required element and, crucially, evidencing that it operates. I do that with you and configure it all in the Safety Hub so it produces live records from day one.

By the time the certification body arrives, you have a working system and the documented information to prove it — which is what turns the Stage 2 audit from a risk into a formality.

  • Context & interested parties (cl.4): scope, issues and the parties whose needs shape your system.
  • Leadership & policy (cl.5): an OH&S policy, roles and worker consultation arrangements.
  • Planning (cl.6): hazard identification, risk and opportunity registers, legal register and objectives.
  • Support (cl.7): competence and training records, communication and controlled documents.
  • Operation (cl.8): operational controls, change management and emergency preparedness.
  • Evaluation & improvement (cl.9–10): monitoring, internal audit, management review, incidents and corrective action.

Built in the Safety Hub, not a document folder

The difference with my implementation is that your system is live software, not a static set of templates. Risk assessments, the training matrix, incident and corrective-action records, the audit log and management review all sit in Featherstone Safety Hub, so the evidence ISO 45001 demands is generated as you work.

That keeps implementation efficient and, more importantly, keeps you certified easily year after year — surveillance audits draw on a system that is already current, rather than a scramble to rebuild records before the auditor visits.

From kick-off to certification

A typical ISO 45001 implementation runs over three to six months. I start with a gap assessment (credited against implementation), build the system with you, run a first internal audit and management review to generate the required records, then support you through the certification body's Stage 1 (documentation) and Stage 2 (implementation) audits — and any minor actions that come out of them.

  • Gap assessment: establish where you are and the route to compliance (credited if you proceed).
  • System build: configure the OH&S system and documents in the Safety Hub.
  • Run it live: first internal audit and management review create the evidence.
  • Certification support: guidance through Stage 1 and Stage 2 with your chosen UKAS-accredited body.

Pricing

ISO 45001 implementation is £2,750–£7,500, scoped to your headcount, number of sites and current maturity. This covers consultancy and the system build in the Safety Hub. UKAS-accredited certification body audit fees (typically £2,500–£8,000+ for an SME) are paid directly to the body and are separate. After certification, monthly maintenance from £199/month keeps you audit-ready. Prefer to certify both health and safety and environmental? An integrated ISO 45001 + 14001 system is around 20% cheaper than doing them separately.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions

How much does ISO 45001 implementation cost?

£2,750–£7,500 for consultancy and the system build, scoped to your size and complexity. Certification body audit fees are separate and paid directly to the accredited body.

How long does it take?

Typically three to six months from kick-off to your Stage 2 certification audit, depending on your size and how developed your current arrangements are.

Do you issue the certificate?

No — a UKAS-accredited certification body issues it after a two-stage audit. I build and evidence the system and guide you through both stages.

What do I actually get?

A complete, working ISO 45001 management system in the Safety Hub: policy, registers, operational controls, internal audit and management review records, and the certification document pack — plus support through certification.

What happens after certification?

Surveillance audits happen annually and recertification every three years. Monthly maintenance from £199/month keeps your system current and audit-ready so those are straightforward.

Can I add ISO 14001 later?

Yes, though it's more cost-effective to implement them together as an integrated system (around 20% cheaper than separately).
